Svenstrup, 22nd March. 2013

Dear Y’s Menettes,

I have great news about our project: Centre for HIV – AIDS Awareness Programme and Educational Support to AIDS Affected/Infected Destitute Children, Kerala, India. I am happy to be able to inform you, that we have already sent our second instalment. A week ago I received a progress report and an expenditure statement up to 28.2.2013. It was interesting reading.

A skill building workshop for infected/affected children and their parents took place on the 23rd and 24th February 2013 at Renewel Centre, Kaloor, Kochin. They had assembled around 140 persons from different places of Ernakulam District, 64 students and their parents. Many dignitaries had blessed the occasion with their presence. And for the volunteers and field workers it was a great job to gather the HIV-infected/affected persons from the district by continuously visits and counseling.
The first day of the programme was on the 23rd February and a public meeting was arranged. There was a good collection of study materials which included note books, air bags, instrument box, umbrellas, tiffin box, pen etc.

Main faculty for the two days Seminar and Counseling Class was Dr. Hari Kumar, National Con- sultant of HIV-AIDS Govt. of Kerala, Dr. P.K.Mathew, Consultant, District Hospital, and Ernakulam & Smt. Dhanya Counselor.  The two day seminar on Life Skill education for children helps to develop a peer support for children and facilitate them to develop the skills of decision making, problem solving, creative thinking, critical thinking, effective communication, inter personal relationship skills, self awareness, empathy, coping with emotions and stress etc. Effective sessions for parents, interactive sessions, and recreational programme were the other attraction on the seminar.
We hope that the two day seminar would certainly help the children to be more self-dependence, aware of their rights & duties and to overcome the social settings of the discriminative society.

PUBLISHED MATERIALS
There is printed 500 numbers of posters and 1000 number of pamphlets posters mainly used in the industrial areas and other migrated labor colonies, and pamphlets were distributed to children and parents. The posters mainly featured with preventive steps to be taken against HIV-AIDS. The pam- phlets for children are very informative and certainly help those to aware of children’s rights, nutri- tion, shelter, protection health care etc.

BUILDING CONSTRUCTION
They have completed 15 m. depth well for water supply. Excavation for foundation and footing for column have been completed. We hope that the construction work will start within 2 weeks in full swing.

Thank you to YMCA Mattakuzhi – Project Co-coordinator C.I. Chacko and President Paul M. Philip for good information. I hope many clubs after this informative reading will take steps to send money for this excellent project.

Y’sly and sincerely yours,
Gurli Holm
